I have had 3 R cameras, and none of them had this problem.  On the other
hand, the DOF lever on R cameras in my experience is always kind of stiff,
and doesn't snap back with a lot of force.  Perhaps a little lubrication
would fix your problem?  (I am not suggesting you put oil on it!  Rather, I
suggest it be disassembled and lubricated with a graphite grease or
something similar.)
