Subject: Leica Pradovit P150 experiences

Some ten days ago there were a couple of posting on the qualities of the
Leica Pradovit P150 slide projector in comparison to other Leica projectors.
Hans Pahlen told that the P150 has a bad reputation (it breaks easily and
spends most of its time at the repairmen), at least this was the situation
2-3 years ago.

I have to second this with my own experiences. I bought my P150 in Q1 of
1994 and have since then used it now and then. The unit was sold with the
Hektor-P2 85mm f/2.8, which is already a reasonably good lens. Image quality
was significantly improved with the Colorplan-P2 90 mm f/2.5 CF (as all my
slides are without glass mounts).
However, the projector itself broke down completely this year. To be
specific: the autofocus ceased to function and the manual adjustments on the
remote control did not have any effect anymore.
I gave it back to the camera shop and they sent it to their own
repairservice (not to Leica). I got it back a few days later. They had to
install a new motor as the AF motor was "used up" (according to the
repairmen).
The camera shop said they do not normally have this type of mechanical
problems with the P150 projector. They consider it to be one of the best
projectors around, even more so when taken into consideration the reasonable
price.

Just wanted to share this experience. My P150 is now humming happily...
