I find these special editions sickening. Lightyears away from the central function of a Leica, photograpy. Why not a Cartier Leica with a "stylized clip set of round and baguette cut diamonds, mounted in a large stepped-cut rubies frame surrounded by hexagonally shaped sugarloaf cabochon and square cut peridots, the bangle designed as a smooth tapering band, mounted in 18K yellow gold and platinum" (description from the last Cartier Geneva sale catalogue)? In my opinion not more beautiful than a battered, much used black Leica-M with many marks! The only positive element I see is that if these special editions allow Leica to continue and to give us now and then an exeptional new lens, they should continue to produce specials. I will spend my money on film, developer and paper (and the exeptional new lens!) though, and not on bizarre engraving. Gerard.
