The M6 is eminently well suited for all that you mention above, BUT,=20
you will have to work a bit to learn the proper handling of the camera=20
and the proper interpretation of what the meter is telling you.=20
Extremely rewarding if you put forth the effort.=20

If you aren't willing to make the investment in time and film, then go=20
for all the automation. (Good thing the R8 cheerleader is out of town=20
for this one.)

Mitigating factors? Yes, if close work and longer lenses are in your=20
plans, then a SLR would be the better choice. Automatic SLR? Again,=20
your call.

No contest really, get the M6! It'll always be there for the bulk of=20
your work. You'll get a SLR anyway, if the other factors become=20
important.
