As far as I know, there have been no optical changes since its introduction in 1961. Mine is excellent, except at it widest aperture, unless you like really soft dreamy images (talk about Bokeh!). But stopped down a bit, it is as good as they get. At normal shooting apertures, it compares well with my aspheric. Dan C.
