Donal - In the past, Leitz has made both battery & wind up motors for
their RF models but they have been neither quiet nor compact, although
the MOOLY motor which would take 12 pics @ 1 or 2 frames/sec was
about the same size as the one for the M4-2 or M6. It would seem that
the drive train for the "M"s needs more torque - ergo more batteries &
more weight & thereby defeats the idea of a small lite-weight "decisive
 moment" shooter.
Personally, if Leica was to make a wind-up motor today, similar to
the MOOLY, I would stand in line to buy one, Just think - no batteries.

why is it Contax and others can put a winder inside a package smaller
than an M, but Leica can't build even a small add on?? Is there a
technical reason you couldn't make a motorwinder for the M very small
 and very quiet??
