I too used to use the split image tool for focusing my SLRs, but when I
started using AF camera, I became used to seeing  a simple matt screen.
Now that I have gone back to using an old Nikon F2, I ignore the split
image and microprism collar in the viewfinder and just use the surrounding
screen.  I guess you use what you are used to.
