You are loosening the knob at the bottom of the column, right? That would strip the mechanism if it isn't loosened for those who haven't used this enlarger. Once it's stripped, there's nothing to do but send it in for repair. I'm sure you're not doing that, though. Just thought I'd mention it for other's benefit. The way I did it (and I seem to remember this was what the instructions said) was to loosen the knob, and raise and lower the enlarger until it was in focus at the bottom of the swinging arm's range. The swing it all the way to the top and refocus. Then adjust again, and lower it and see if it's still in focus. Keep working it top and bottom until you have it zeroed in. You also have to make sure it's the right lens for that enlarger. I know some unscrupulous dealers were selling the enlarger and lens separately, and that is not what Leica intended. The cam is cut specifically for the individual lens on that particular enlarger. If you can't get it to work right, you should probably send it (all 75 pounds!) to Leica for calibration. ============= Eric Welch St. Joseph, MO Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
