Subject: Leica on the cheap (was Jim Brick & Ernesto)

Jim and Ernesto are quite right.

Despite occasional minor spats, the people here are great.

Although many on this list can afford whatever Leica gear they desire,
there are also many (myself included) who can't. We scrimp and save to get
small outfits because we appreciate the quality of Leica gear. This also
means having to think creatively at times.

For instance, I wanted a right-angle viewfinder (for my R5) for one series
of no more than 30 photographs. The real thing was simply too expensive -
even used. But I found a used BerkeyPhoto Universal Angle Finder made to
fit an old Pentax. About an hour of careful filing, and a few coats of
black spray paint on the metal bits and Voila! True, it has barrel
distortion like crazy, but it's not in the optical path. It works just
fine, and it set me back just $15!

Now I'm wondering if I'm the only cheap, slightly crazy Leica enthusiast
around, or are there other such "bargain basement" Leica stories out there?

Just curious...
