The two viewfinders, if you find an example still nice and clear, are a marvel. The double-image rangefinder itself isn't in a class with the Leica. And you are right -- the Nikon RFs lack the heft or gravitas, if you will, of the M, and probably aren't as long lived. But they are pleasing to use and have a nice, comfortable feel all their own. The lenses are by and large very good too. I think Steve Gandy points out on his website that the 50 f/1.4 is certainly a fine alternative to a 50 Summilux, at one-sixth (give or take) the cost. I use mine still. Not enough to justify its expense, I suppose, but I couldn't imagine parting with it. You can still find some users around at a decent enough price (compared to Leica prices, that is), if you look. But if you prefer the 50 f/1.4 lens, why not try an S2? They're much more affordable and in some ways are handier shooters. You could pick up an 85 or 105 too, if you can find an accessory viewfinder. Regards, Bill Welch
