As in shooting a gun your stance should about as wide as your shoulders, this includes your elbows---keep those in close to your body even brace them agianst your chest for added support. Form a triangle to support the camera-not so tight you shake but comfortable and you will be suprised at how slow you can go. I have gotten acceptable results at 1/15 using a 200 mm lens doing this 1/4 or so with short glass.
