There may be a way to visually see the difference.  My DR was built in the
last year of production (1968), and the words "Leitz Wetzlar" engraved on
the eyes are NOT enclosed by a 6-sided engraved polygon.  Older DRs seem to
have this additional engraving on the eyes.  A previous post a few months
ago mentioned that each version of the eyes could only mount onto its
matched lens.  I wonder if this corresponds to the difference Marc is
referring to.
