Isn't >its legend predicated by stealth and speed? Or is it, by the reverse >implication, only a ludicrously expensive retro toy? > >What would be an acceptable M6 improvement? 90% of Leica M6 pictures are made by turning the aperture ring until the 2 LED's match. The camera might set the shutter as well automatically (yes, I know that this is not the same as adjusting aperture). Just a supplementary little A on the shutterspeed dial (the B is already there) without any change in the manual shutterspeeds. Leica could add at the same time off-the-film flashmetering for the 0,001% of Leica-M photographers who use flashguns. Plus an on/off switch coupled to the transport lever to avoid unwanted battery drain (no more "unfortunately-the-camerabag-pressed-the-shutter-button" type of situations). A bigger shutterspeed dial that can be turned easier with the right index finger. And a faster winder with 25% of todays volume. For me, anything that can be done to decrease the time between visualizing the image and fixing the image on film, without changing the Leica-M's exterior, is welcome. Just a pinch of seventies technology, which probably can be done for peanuts compared to the R8 development cost (30 mio Deutschmarks I heard, heil prosit!). Gerard Captijn.
