I sometimes put a separate viewfinder in the hotshoe so I can see what is
happening during short time exposures and some other weird stuff I do. And
you can use Leica R lenses (with manual diaphragm operation) on a Novoflex
adapter on an EOS RT body- the mirror doesn't move and there is no
viewfinder blackout.
