On the earlier M cameras, fixing the vertical >alignment requires a delicate adjustment of a screw behind the screw on >the front plate just above the lens. I haven't had the problem with my >M6, but a local repair guy here has adjusted my earlier Ms' rangefinders. This was talked about on CompuServe. If you pull off the Leica logo dot (it's glued on) there is a very tiny screw in the top of the hole that is revealed. This adjusts the vertical alignment of the rangefinder. Be sure to use a jeweler's screwdriver and be very, very careful! You'll have to choose whether you want to risk it yourself or send the camera away for an adjustment that will only take a couple of minutes. I don't know how you get the logo back on, though! What would be ideal would be to wait for an official Leica event where they do a free clean and adjust. - - Paul
