Gang,

A friend and occasional assistant has Maxum system with nice 80-200
f/2.8 lens.  It has taken a beating, but he can't afford to fix or
replace it (guess I should pay him more!).  The lens barrel actually
comes apart, so you have to have a hand on it or keep it upright.

But last year he was photographing the hydroplane boats in SD with this
lens and has a sequence of Miss Budweiser disintegrating.  He had a
feeling something was going to happen he said, but all the other
photographers were looking the other way and only he got about a 8 frame
sequence.  Allsport distributed the image and it was published in a book
on best sports photographs of l996.   

Since Allsport has never paid him, the lens still is in pieces, but
working fine--as long as he holds the barrel together.
