Try the high scale (for brighter light) until the needdle gets to the bottom, then switch to the low light scale. The sliding white dome on the end is for Incident Light. Point it toward the light source or at the camera. When it is moved aside, you are reading Reflected Light, the light coming from the subject. Sounds like you might want to read a piece on the two types of light readings to understand the difference. Fred Ward
