Roo bar is Australian for bull bar. And although the latter is the 
more common name, roo bar is where it all started. Even today the 
best full size bumpers come from down under (ARB & TJM), even for US 
and Japanese 4x4.  
Other, lighter gradiations:
- - winch bumper: low profile replacement bumper, taking winch, not
covering grill or headlights.
- - brush or grill guard: full width add-on contraption, covering grill 
and headlights. Wreck more than they protect in an accident.
- - push bar: half width add-on contraption, only covering grill.
