An image should stand by itself. IF one isbetter than another, the image should tell you, NOT the photog.>>> G'day Stephen, Right on my friend! Too many photographers feel they have to explain their photographs and in particular those who present their portfolio for assignment work or a critique. It is better to just put your work down, keep your mouth shut and let the viewer digest what you have given them to look at. If the photographer babbles on, he detracts from the viewers concentration and appreciation of his work. Not to mention the babbling photog gives away that he knows the photograph he's mouthing off about, isn't as great as it should or could have been! And shouldn't have been in the portfolio in the first place! Let the viewer make the first verbal contact when they are ready, then answer the one question, then fall silent again. The first question or comment does not open the door for the photographer to start making excuses for his work, as that is the case if one goes on talking. One can be nervous at presenting their work and that is a greater time to keep quiet as you give away your nervousness and apprehention of how good your photography is. But this is something we who have "been there done that" had to learn. :) <<<Sorry folks, it ain't the camera, its the photographer.>>>>>> This is one thing a great number of folks do not understand and that includes many photographers who as you say, think they need a more expensive camera and all their images will be great and they'll be happy ever after working for LIFE or NAT. GEO! Ain't so folks. The better glass makes for better recorded image on film, but if the guy holding the camera can't see a picture to save his life, it isn't going to be any better because he uses a Leica or throw away camera. ted Victoria, Canada http://www.islandnet.com/~tedgrant
