I still have a roll of Leitz slide masking tape that I used to wrap on a collapsable Elmar 50 because of warning in the orig. CL manual. Since I prefer using a 50, I've been using a rigid 50 on the CL unhappily because it throws the camera out of hand balance. Obviously if you don't retract the lens there would be no problem, but are you saying that one could collapse a 50 on the CL and not damage the meter swing arm? I'm chicken to attempt it, so leave the collapsables for the M-3's, not trusting myself to leave them extended while on the CL, or just go with the 40 designed for it (which isn't horrible). The main thing is to shoot and soup a lot! sblutter
