Reason is that I borrowed one from fellow photo student Don Nichols at R.I.T. about 40 years ago (1957) and made one of my best photographs with it -- wide open at f/1.5. The soft look is wonderful, when you want it. My Summarit is great for shooting at night where light comes into the lens. The "halo" look is great, especially in color.
