Subject: 28mm Rokkor?

I am very interested in the pluses and minuses of the 28mm Rokkor lens. A
friend has one for sale at a reasonable price. It is a Minolta lens. 

I like the way the lens looks and feels. However, it seems to have a
non-brass helicoil. Otherwise, it looks like a Leica lens, except for the
caps, which are pure Minolta.

What about its optical performance? When were such lenses made?
