It's my understanding that the lens contacts on the R8 will be useful only
to permit the use of an auto-zoom flash head (which sets the flash spread
differently with different focal length lenses, and zooms with zooms).
However, I have also heard that the lens contacts have other potential uses,
and that later cameras will do more with them.
