Subject: Lens cap question

I have a chrome lens cap marked Leica Canada. It is a 39mm cap and screws on
to a 39mm lens. On the inner surface, right in the center, is a 1/4-20 stud.
It sticks up about 3/16 of an inch.
 Anyone have any idea what it is for?
