responding to Chris Fortunko re: modifying M viewfinders - -

Back in the 1960s when I was using M Leicas daily for magazine work I
had a Miami Leica repairman put M3 viewfinders in M2s so I could have
the M3 trio of lenses available in my viewfinder and still have a
Leicavit winder; and had an M2 viewfinder put into an M3, partially to
see if it could be done and partially to see how I liked having those
lenses available to me in a camera that I thought was better made.

Anyway, both worked, I used them for some years, and finally sold them
all, keeping the cameras and viewfinders as they came from Leica.

Of course, all of this was before the M4 type viewfinder with 28mm lens
view in the viewfinder.
