the Contax G1 can be converted to Leica M mount. Conversion cost is
DM 1790, on top of the lens costs of DM 4800...."

Your prices convert to approximately $3,200 for the lens and $1,200 for the 
conversion.  Given that the Hologon retails for around $2,200 here 
(including finder)  in the US and assuming that a machinist can be found to 
change the mount for no more than the $1,200 you quote, that all computes to 
a pretty good price (<$3,500) for this exotic lens. Used ones seem to sell 
for several times this sum.

My question is, how good is this rather old design, recognizing that nothing 
else that wide is available?
