	There was some discussion of tripod stability vs portability on 
the Large Format list a while ago.  A number of people there claimed that 
they had been able to get very good stability out of light tripods by 
making use of a device (the name of which I have forgotten) which 
consists of some kind of a small bag that can be filled with material at 
the site - rocks, gravel, dirt - and hung from the centre post.  Perhaps 
something like that would be of assistance to you:  I am sure that you 
could rig something for yourself.
