Of course it is no joke. My experiences with both UPS and FEDEX have been
quite frustrating and annoying, while I've had no difficulties at all with
delivery by the USPS. I send and receive three to five camera parcels a
month and do so all over this country, continent, and world. Nary a problem
with the regular mail stuff, horrors galore with the others.

Wilson Cheng in Hong Kong has sent me some stuff by DHL and the service has
been great -- but he works for them. I've otherwise not used them.

As to fine print, again, look at the UPS/FEDEX contract: they don't insure
unique items outside the US. I don't want to be sending a $2,000 camera
overseas and have it turn up missing -- not unlikely with the miserable
track record of both UPS and FEDEX -- and lack insurance to collect. No
thanks -- I may shoot Leica and be a lawyer, but the former keeps me from
being wealthy ...

And I've had UPS come by my office when both my secretary and I were out and
have them leave a $1200 box on my front stoop. Gads! At least, with the
PO, it goes into a secure box. Spare me!
