If a company doesn't pioneer the next generation of lenses someone else will and no matter what their name, they will become extinct (or be relegated to a museum)! I haven't heard anyone say that we want a whiz-bank, flashing light Leica. But some photographers might like to have a 50mm/f0.5 Super Noctilux or lenses with a performance that is significantly better than what's out there now. And don't say that that isn't possible. Leica lenses are superlative, but everything in this world can be improved.
