Sure, if one's forte is shooting sports or anything else where focusing is problematic, AF is great. But, for most people who shoot portraits, landscape, nature, still lifes, citscapes, abstracts etc, what's the big deal about focusing? For me, good in camera metering is much more important. I have and use 3 systems, Leica M, Nikon F and Mamiya Pro 645. Each, in its own way has good metering -- the F4 arguably the most vesatile. I hardly use AF on the Nikon -- maybe 10% of the time. Normally I use all 3 camera systems on fully manual exposure. AF have always struck me as one of those areas where the manufacturers CAN make technical strides, and therefore the do -- pulling consumers along with them, convincing them that this is important. Humbug. (Easy enough to say to a Leica group.
