It took me a while, but I think it's faster than autofocus. Here's how you do it in case you haven't heard: Look at something some distance away, and set the focus to infinity. Raise the camera to your eye, and focus on it. Now put the camera down, and feel the position of the tab on your lens, remember it, and set it back to infinity (all the while looking at your subject). Try to put the tab back to where it was, raise the camera back up, and see how you did. Keep trying this until you get it right, and move on to other subjects at different distances. It might take you 1,000 tries but it's a great technique & makes for lightning fast photography.
