Jorge, and other Leica list readers:

The r-4s was a good reliable Leica box. It supposedly did not have some of the
mechanical shortcomings of the earlier r-4. I use the word SUPPOSEDLY because I
own three r-4 boxes and have never had any trouble with them...and they've each
had thousands upons thousands of rolls through them. (The last one that I sent
in for a complete Leica overhaul, had been dunked in Lake Michigan...and so
certainly deserved some tender, loving, and DRYing care.

I have a professional photojournalist collegue that has three of the r-4s
boxes...and he's used them for years and loves them.

When the boxes are available in Milwaukee, here at Reimers, they typically sell
for (bodies only, in excellent condition) around 800-1100 dollars WITHOUT ANY
LENS. Fifty mm Summicrons in excellent shape go for about $600-700 here...

So, your deal for $900 sounds very, very reasonable. I just hope that the
previous owner doesns't know something about the camera that you don't. And,
of course, maybe the present owner just needs quick cash. And we all know that
Leicas can be a good source of that.

In short, it if looks, feels and handles good...and most importantly, IF THE
CAMERA WILL DO WHAT YOU WANT IT TO DO---then go for it!
